The assignment was to redesign two existing small urban kiosks—a snack kiosk and a booth for a bike parking attendant—and to add two new kiosks: a public toilet and a bus shelter. We viewed the competition as an opportunity to reflect on the neglected public spaces in Dutch cities.
Every day, as we walk through the city, we move between countless objects (lampposts, trash cans, benches, etc.) without truly noticing them. Many of these objects are unremarkable or in poor condition, yet they shape our daily landscape.
For this project, we created a sculptural group of abstract objects. Glass and light lines dematerialize the objects, embodying the space in between and making residents aware of the existence and relevance of public space in daily life.
