After thinking about the role of Clubhouse de Vrijbuiter, we decided to reverse the usual plan for this type of building. This idea arose from the idea that the building is an extension of the outdoor space it serves. Therefore, all functions in the building had to be accessible from the outdoor space, rather than through an internal hallway.
To make this possible in a compact building, we created an open gallery covered with polycarbonate sheets. This solution also reduces the insulated part of the building, saving both construction costs and long-term energy costs.
The building is actually split into two blocks: one block contains the social space, while the other, with two floors, houses the other functions. From the gallery, you can access the social space, offices, changing rooms, toilets, and more.
The facade is made of elements of black recycled plastic and polycarbonate sheets.
