Abstract banister

The client did not require a standard banister, but a unique object that would act as an eye-catcher in the beautiful entrance hall of this house in Haarlem. The design had to be not only functional, but also make an aesthetic statement. We therefore designed a flowing, wooden handrail that perfectly matches the existing architecture and gives a subtle nod to the home’s Art Nouveau details.

The abstract banister follows an elegant, organic line that accentuates the movement of the staircase while lending a warm, natural feel to the space. The choice of wood and the refined finish make the banister feel like a work of art in itself, an integral part of the interior that enhances the historic charm of the house.

To crown the design, we placed a glass sphere at the end of the banister. This sphere reflects the light flowing through the hall and creates a playful play of light and shadow in the room. The result is not only a functional and abstract banister, but also a graceful, artistic element that transforms the entrance hall into a space full of character and atmosphere.
